Hydrology Engineer
The Hydrology Engineer will be instrumental in providing specialized hydrological and hydraulic analysis and design for road construction projects in Saudi Arabia. This role entails evaluating flood risks, designing effective drainage solutions, and ensuring that all engineering practices meet environmental compliance standards. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in hydrology, hydraulic modeling, and drainage design to contribute to the successful completion of projects, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth hydrological studies to evaluate flood risks and establish design flows for road projects.
- Develop and apply sophisticated hydraulic models to assess the performance and efficiency of drainage structures.
- Design comprehensive drainage systems, including culverts, bridges, channels, and detention basins, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
- Prepare detailed hydrological and hydraulic reports, technical drawings, and specifications for project documentation and execution.
- Ensure all projects fully comply with environmental regulations and permitting requirements, promoting sustainable and responsible engineering practices.
- Collaborate effectively with civil, geotechnical engineers, and other team members to achieve integrated and successful project outcomes.
- Provide ongoing technical support during the construction phase, including site inspections and troubleshooting to address any emerging issues.
- Review and approve hydrological and hydraulic designs from other team members, maintaining the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in hydrological modeling techniques and design practices, contributing to continuous improvement and innovation.
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, with a focus on hydrology and hydraulics. A Master’s degree is highly desirable.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
Required Skills
- 5-7 years of experience in hydrological and hydraulic analysis and design, ideally within transportation projects.
- Expertise in hydrological modeling and analysis.
- Proficiency in hydraulic modeling and design techniques.
- Comprehensive understanding of drainage design principles and practices.
- Ability to interpret hydrological data and prepare detailed reports.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
- Proficiency in hydrological modeling software (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS).
- Familiarity with GIS (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D).
- Experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., R, Python).
- Knowledge of surveying equipment for field data collection.
- Familiarity with rainfall and streamflow data resources and technical manuals.
- Experience working on projects in arid or semi-arid environments (preferred).
- Experience with projects in the Middle East (an advantage).
- Previous experience in Engineering Consultancy (mandatory).
